Mt Buller/King River - 24-26 April 2010

For this trip, we were on Taungurung Country.

All loaded up and ready to go.

Weather's not looking so good.

Definitely not ideal conditions for camping.

Plan B: Stay in a hotel on Mt Buller.

Day 2: Weather's looking promising.

Craig's Hut: Home of Jim Craig, "The Man From Snowy River".

360 degree panoramic mountain views from Craig's Hut.

Mt Cobbler from Craig's Hut.

Climbing up the now obliterated infamous "Staircase" on Speculation Road.

Lake Cobbler.

Heavy rain in preceding days had created mini waterfalls along Speculation Road.

Crossing of King River on King Basin Road. River was flowing briskly but on first inspection, it didn't look too deep.

However, once we plunged in, we realised that we had badly underestimated the depth of the river!

Campsite beside the King Basin Road.

The fire kept us warm as the temperature dropped to 1 degree at night.

Spuds for supper.

For the return trip across the river, we decided the car could use some extra protection as we didn't think water in the engine bay would be good for the car's health.

Climbing No. 3 Road towards Mt No. 3 and Tomahawk Gap.

View from Mt No. 3.

Get outta the way cow!

Alpine snowgums 1500m above sea level.
