King Billy - 28 April - 1 May 2012

This is where we went; Taungurung Country.

Light fading on the hills around Buller.

A campsite with a basketball ring.....surely that is worthy of a 5-star rating.

The King River slowly making its way towards Wangaratta.

The 5 crossings of the King River were heaps shallower than the last time I was in this neck of the woods.

Crossing the King River.

A scenic bend in the Howqua River at 16 Mile.

We needed one of these to keep warm as the temperature dropped below zero.

We woke to find everything frozen including the grass.

A sense of deja vu but no problems this time with the raised suspension.

Crawling up some rocky steps.

Not much of a view from Picture Point as the clouds blew over.

The rocky climb up to King Billy No. 1.

A rainforest setting in the valley of the Macalister.

Rock Scree.....that's a shitload of rock!

A novel concept - "a loo with a view". That view sure beats reading the paper.

The Crosscut Saw from Macalister Springs.

Heading up towards King Billy's No. 1 (right) and No. 2 (left).

A bit of slushy high country mud.

Nice colours at sunset.

Keeping warm by the fire.

And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled.

The Great Wall.....Aussie style (The Bluff).

Peering towards the Jamieson Valley.

Descending the extremely steep Mitchells Track.

This threw a massive spanner in the works and set us back a few hours as we had to find another way out.

Trying to find our way out of the bush in the dark.
