This is what Marysville (what was Victoria's most beautiful town) looks like 8 months after the Black Saturday Bushfires. I was fortunate enough to have headed up there twice in the weeks preceeding the fires. What I saw for the most part resembled a new housing development prior to building with empty lots. Other things I saw (included in the photos below) included the quite attractive green foliage growing on the blackened tree spines, a tent, small fires to keep warm and also fires to burn off rubble.
When I went hiking in the Cathedral Ranges behind Marysville three weeks prior to the fires, we ate at the corner bakery beforehand and had dinner at the restaurant at the end of the street afterwards. These were the only two eateries left standing after the fires! Almost everything along the main street was wiped out.
